I practice primarily in the area of personal injury litigation. I have completed trials and argued cases in every level of court in New Mexico, from one-room trailers functioning as magistrate courts to the New Mexico Supreme Court, as well as in the U.S. District Court and the Federal Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. I have appeared in courts from Lovington to Santa Fe and most courthouses in between.
I only take the number of cases that I can work on personally. I generally only work on a very limited number of cases at any time. Sometimes, I only work on five or six cases at a time, depending on the size of the cases. I have talked to lawyers who have over one hundred active files at a time. They rely upon paralegals to tell them what is occurring in their cases. You will not be shuffled off to some new and inexperienced lawyer or some paralegal after you hire me. When you call my office, you will talk to me. That is the only way that I can make sure that I know everything that is happening with your case at all times. If we have to go to trial with your case, I know everything about your case, because I did everything. Your case it too important to me to chance someone else forgetting things that happened over the months or even years.
In the early years of my practice, I represented clients in the Worker’s Compensation Administration, the Social Security Administration, criminal misdemeanor courts, divorce courts, and even security clearance hearings. I have also represented various partnerships and businesses in litigation disputes, over a career of nearly 30 years. Even though I no longer represent clients in these matters, this breadth of experience is still very useful when these issues arise as part of personal injury cases.
I began my career working my way through law school by doing research and writing for law firms, and serving as an editor on the law review. I joined an insurance defense firm after graduation from law school which has given me a unique understanding of how insurance companies litigate claims. I quickly learned that I needed to work for people and not corporations, so I started my own firm in 1990 where I still work.
